The Leeds ATA is a not for profit organisation set up by Leeds City Council and Leeds City College, and is supported by the West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce. We’ve been established to provide a simple, cost effective solution for regional SMEs to bring fresh talent into their businesses.
We’re passionate about the value apprentices can bring to SMEs through innovative thinking and fresh ideas for everyday business solutions. We also recognise the resourcing challenges many growing businesses face and apprentices can provide a sustainable solution; helping to reduce skill shortages, minimise staff turnover and increase productivity.
Here at Leeds ATA, we take the hassle away by recruiting and screening candidates on your behalf before shortlisting the ones we think have the right skillset for your business. By hosting an apprentice, you have the opportunity to train and mould young people within your own company framework whilst the administrative requirements and legal responsibility of employing staff members are managed by us as we’re the legal employer.
Although the apprentice is an employee of the Leeds ATA, you, the host company, are part of the process every step of the way. You decide the final candidate and you can choose to directly employ them at any time during their apprenticeship once you feel that you no longer need our support. The process and framework of the Leeds ATA is designed to be flexible to meet the needs of our host companies. We’ll also work with you to access any additional funding that may be available to support you.
For our service, host companies pay a monthly fee to the Leeds ATA made up of the apprenticeship wage and our support fee. It’s an all-inclusive cost agreed on an individual basis. Before placing an apprentice with a host company, we agree clear terms of business with you, the training provider and the apprentice.
As a host company you will need to provide:
• At least 30 hours of work per week
• Day-to-day supervision of the apprentice in your workplace
• A safe working environment
• Appropriate in-company induction, uniform and any PPE as you would for any employee
